Tenby was hot! As is everywhere in the UK and although we are ok poor George is really struggling. George is out of sorts in more ways than one….we think he is homesick and missing his territory, his regular walks and perhaps my walkers…..!!!
Today he had to go to the vets again, this time to get a worm tablet administered in front of a vet, another travel requirement before going to Ireland. The whole European Travel Medical that UK pets have to go through is mind boggling and an absolute money spinner for the vets – costs range from £99 online to £500 and anything in between – we paid £200 plus £40 for worming tablet. If you can get an EU pet passport – you only need an EU address that you can use – it will save a lot of money and hassle. We’ve been told this by English, Welsh and Irish customs and vets that it is totally possible. We will be looking into this in Ireland.
George growled at the very kind vet, this is not the first time he’s been growling at people and it wasn’t the last…. He’s becoming quite anxious about certain people and we aren’t sure why or what triggers it. Something to look out for.

A quick sea swim at Tenbys huge beach before we hit the next site.
We had 2 nights at Parke Farm Campsite – very friendly, with lovely clean facilities and showers with big pitches.
The next very hot day we foolishly walked nearly 9 miles but it was worth the walk (well I thought so!) because at the half way point we were walking around some huge man-made lily ponds in Bosherton

and came upon a huge sand dune and over the other side was the most beautiful beach

It was like an oasis with crystal clear water lapping gently upon the white sand. We later discovered it’s called Broad Haven looked after by National Trust.

Stupidly neither of us had our swimmers but that didn’t stop me – t shirt and underpants only I ran into the water, once you’re in no one can tell the difference! It was worth it as the heat was pretty extreme at that point.

George really suffered that day – he won’t go in the sea to cool down which is frustrating and something we are gently trying to get him to do with lots of treats. We take lots of cold water for him and rest him frequently in the shade but I think we’ve realised that we just can’t do long walks with him in these extreme temperatures.

Another couple of lovely meals cooked on the Cadac grill, it’s so simple to use – simply brush your vegetables, (this time it was courgettes, mushrooms, onions) halloumi and local Welsh lamb steaks with olive oil flavoured with garlic and some dried herbs. We also bought some fresh mackerel from the quay in Tenby and grilled those with fresh sweetcorn on the Cadac.

I have also picked lots of fresh wild mint and made some excellent mint tea.

Tonight we have the overnight ferry from Pembroke to Rosslare so we are doing a midnight flee from the site and it’s the first time we’ve driven the motor home at night.

Poor George, our neighbours collie has been suffering too and the vet can’t work out why.
We have been thinking of buying a Cadac so was interested in your comment about being easy to use.
All sounds great, a good start to your adventures xx
We have the compact version with gas canisters so that’s it portable. I will do a more detailed blog soon on it. George seems happier now we have reached Cork and spending a few days with our son Louis. xx
Hi Lucie
Your adventures look wonderful! Have you thought about a cool vest for George? They really do work – you wet the vest with water before you put it on and evaporation keeps the vest and your dog cool for hours.
Sally x
Hi Sally – glad you’ve been following. I hope all is good with you and you aren’t suffering too much in this heat! Unfortunately G doesn’t like water on his back so a cool vest is no good – We’ve tried him with my Ice Towel and he’s not very keen!! The weather is changing in the next few days here so hopefully he will settle down better. Thanks for following xx
He hates any water on his back so that won’t work I’m afraid. Hope you are keeping cool – the weather here has broken now so we are cooler. x
It’s great to read your blog about your adventures… amazing photos of Broad Haven, definitely worth a trip, hope the cooler weather helps George.
Thanks guys – keep reading it can only get better!
You’ve already achieved so much in such a short time. 👌 Sorry to hear George is out of sorts, as you say it might be that he’s out of his routine and homesick 🥹 but the heat isn’t helping at the moment but that’s all set to change. Have you managed to keep cool in the MH? The cadac grill looks a great alternative to the BBQ 👍 Fab pics Lucie, keep them coming. Hugs 💖
Thanks darling – Moho is cool so no problem there. Loving the life on the road!
We ve been to the lily pad s and that beach
Poor George ! Give him a big hug from me 😃🤗
Intriguing new way of life for you folks. Somewhat envious that you broke the bonds of everyday life to seek new adventures. Will watch your blog and keep up with what’s next. Be save.
