Mexican Adventure – Part 2
A Month in Mexico: A Journey of Family, Food, and Firsts I’d say I spent the first two weeks of my month-long trip adjusting to
Welcome to my travel blog.
Well back in 1988, after we’d just met, Bob and I went to Australia, bought an old VW camper and explored the country for 6 months. It was one hell of an adventure – from being towed at 60 mph in tropical rain storms along windy hilly roads, driving with a broken windscreen and Huntsmen spiders on the dashboard, breaking down and spending days in a campsite with the engine in a million pieces, running through plagues of locusts and being attacked by 1000’s of flies whilst mining for opals!
We started our journey in Western Australia by staying with my 88 year old great uncle Hugh and his two wives. They welcomed us in and when we discovered we were pregnant were most joyful despite us being unmarried and so young! We had countless breathtaking experiences such as climbing to the centre of Ayers Rock and scuba diving in the Whitsunday Islands. We spotted a rare Cassawory on the way to wave rock where there are the most magnificent caves and we visited a meteorite crater and spent nights wild camping in the middle of the rain forest.
It was an adventure that marked the start of a very happy life together with lots of ups and downs (not dissimilar to our first 6 months) and now 35 years later we are off to repeat our adventure staying in the safe waters of UK and parts of Europe.
This time we have a bit more luxury in our Chausson Motorhome and we are taking George our dog with us!
In 1988 I kept a diary and have a few old photos to remind me of the fun times but this time I’m keeping a blog and I’m happy to share our adventure with my friends and family and It all starts here……
